Assam Director General of police, Khagen Sarma on Tuesday said United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) commander in chief Paresh Baruah is in Myanmar, according to a report in India’s Economic Times, on 27 May.
Sarma said Baruah recently visited Kunming in China. “Baruah is in an outfit's camp in Myanmar. Even the top line leaders of the Songbijit faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) are in Myanmar.”
The National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Khaplang (NSCN -K), ULFA , the Songbijit faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), and the Kamatapur Liberation Organisation have formed a common platform to fight against India. Some Manipur based militants have also joined the alliance the report said.
Sarma said that in past these militant outfits has twice cobbled a common platform together however they have failed. “We have to wait and see how this platform works.”
NSCN – K, based in Sagaing Division, revoked a ceasefire with the government of India and took a lead in designing the common platform of the outfits. Sources in intelligence agencies said that Baruah is looking to revive the outfit with the help from the common pool of militants.
