The country’s Union Peace Conference, set to run for five days in total, entered its second day yesterday with group discussions held by seven stakeholders on five topics of discussion, the Global New Light of Myanmar reported on 14 January.
The second day of the conference brought together representatives on behalf of the stakeholder groups of the government, Tatmadaw, Parliament, ethnic armed organisations, political parties, ethnic minorities and other invitees that include intellectuals and intelligentsia into roundtable discussions on five topics under five separate agenda themes— political, economic and social issues, security and land and natural resources.
The five topics of discussion include the basic principles for establishing a democratic federal Union, resettlement and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons, taxation and revenue sharing, the basic principles for national defence and security and natural resources management and distribution.
