Arrangements are being made to stop logging completely across the country during this fiscal year, state media reported yesterday.
Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Ohn Win said that Myanma Timber Enterprise is tasked with protecting remaining forests.
As part of the measures against deforestation and forest degradation, teak extraction is set to end in the areas with no plan to replace the removed trees (generational wood harvesting), the Union minister was quoted as saying, adding that a list of forest resources will be made prior to timber extraction.
