China, France and UN congratulate Myanmar parliament

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China has issued a statement congratulating the Myanmar parliament for its recent presidential appointments.
The statement also says that, “We wish Myanmar to gain more achievements in national development, and hope to continuously push forward the friendly and cooperative relationship between China and Myanmar.”
A number of other embassies have also issued statements of congratulations with the French Embassy stating: “The election of Htin Kyaw marks the continuation of the country’s transition, after Aung San Suu Kyi and her party, the National League for Democracy, won a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections, symbolizing the Burmese people’s high expectations. France stands alongside Burma on its path toward democracy, development and national reconciliation.”
A statement from the spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General also “. . . welcomes this as a significant achievement towards advancing the democratic reforms ushered in by the outgoing Government.” And “calls upon President-elect U Htin Kyaw as well as all other significant stakeholders to work inclusively towards a smooth and peaceful consolidation of unity and stability in the country.”
