Five Yaymasay jade miners were trapped under a spoil heap after a rocky slope collapsed on Thursday at a jade mine in Hpakant, Kachin State, and these five people may now be dead, said Kachin State regional MP Da Shi La Sai of Hpakant constituency.
"Natural Disaster Prevention Committee chairman and Hpakant Township General Administrative Department deputy chief said five people were trapped under a spoil heap," said the MP.
Myanmar Fire Services Department has reported that a rocky slope which is 300 feet in height and 100 feet in length collapsed in New Yadanar Oo company's jade mine on July 13 and five miners have been trapped.
Landslides often occur in jade mines in Hpakant. More than 100 people were killed in a landslide in a Hpakant jade mine in November 2015.
