National League for Democracy (NLD) party Central Executive Committee (CEC) member Nyan Win said that what the Defence Services Commander-in-Chief said in his opening address at Peace Conference, ‘Tatmadaw represents people’, was wrong.
Nyan Win told media on day 2 of the peace conference, “I don’t know if his speech is harsh or not but I’d like to say what he said in his address ‘political parties represent only the people who voted for them’ is totally wrong.”
C-in-C Min Aung Hlaing said in his opening address at the third session of 21st Century Panglong Conference or Union Peace Conference that ethnic armed forces could not represent the entire country and also political parties could represent only the people who voted for them, only Tatmadaw could represent the entire people.
“Some ethnic armed forces in some areas are not representing entire people of 52 million and also political parties can only represent the people who voted for them. Our Tatmadaw was born out of all ethnic people and this People’s Army only can represent the State and the people,” Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing added that since there would be only one Tatmadaw (Defence Services) in the country, ethnic armed organizations should do in accordance with the norms of the international peace process.
