Security forces open fire in Kalay killing at least 11

Security forces on Wednesday stormed a Kalay, also known as Kalemyo or Kale, where some residents had used homemade hunting rifles to resist the military’s February seizure of power, killing at least 11 civilians and injuring many others, Reuters reported quoting local news reports.

If the 11 deaths are confirmed, it would be one of the highest single-day death tolls outside the country’s two largest cities, Yangon and Mandalay.

Myanmar's ambassador to Britain accused a Yangon military-linked figure of occupying the embassy Wednesday and barring him access, in an extraordinary diplomatic stand-off a month after the envoy called for the junta to release ousted civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Protesters gathered outside the building in London's Mayfair neighbourhood with the ambassador, Kyaw Zwar Minn, as reports emerged he had been locked out. When asked who was inside, he replied: "defence attache, they occupy my embassy."

Protesters gathered outside the Myanmar embassy in London on Wednesday following reports that the ambassador had been locked out and barred from entering the building.

Ambassador Kyaw Zwar Minn told the Daily Telegraph that Myanmar military figures had taken over the diplomatic mission.

"When I left the embassy, they stormed inside the embassy and took it. They are from the Myanmar military," he said.

"They said they received instruction from the capital, so they are not going to let me in," he added.

Myanmar group compiles security forces rights abuses dossier

A group representing Myanmar's ousted civilian government said Wednesday it has gathered 180,000 pieces of evidence showing rights abuses by the junta including torture and extrajudicial killings.

The country has been in turmoil since the army deposed civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi on February 1, with nearly 600 people killed in a crackdown on anti-coup protests.

Korean unions decry POSCO & KOGAS investments in Myanmar

The Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union- including its KOGAS branch, and the Korean Metal Workers' Union have demanded Korean companies POSCO International & KOGAS rethink its gas field project in Myanmar. 

The unions demand POSCO cease all contractual payments, including dividends from the Myanmar gas field project and re-examine the project through an investigation with appropriate follow-up measures to ensure they are not crimes against humanity in the country.

Authorities in Myanmar arrested the country’s best-known comedian on Tuesday as they continue to crack down on people they accuse of helping incite nationwide protests against February’s military coup, Reuters reported.
