Background
Fourth highest ranking General and former chairman of the government-sponsored National Convention Convening Commission. Thein Sein is responsible for carrying out high-level negotiations with foreign countries and was the point of contact for relief efforts related to Cyclone Nargis when he was appointed Chairman of National Disaster Preparedness Central Committee. During his career he has also dealt with local drug lords in Shan state and Thailand to resolve border conflicts, however failed to convince them to sign a ceasefire agreement. He also heads the War Veterans Organization.
