Tears fell from the Mudra Hand of Compassion 


Many Buddhist monks, who have been in the forefront of the pro-democracy movement, have been killed and persecuted by the military junta in Burma. This painting portrays the defilement of the Buddhist order.

In the dark, every cat is black

Children in Burma are mostly familiar with a story of "a rabbit and an old man taking shelter inside moon". The story is told to the children by their parents before bed, usually out in an open space looking at the moon.

Where the nuts are happy


There are 37 traditional Nats (deities) in Burma, peculiar to specific areas. Each Nat is worshipped in the belief that he will take care of his devotees. Here, food and entertainment are part of the ceremonial offerings to a Nat. Festivals of Nats are popular, particularly in Central Burma.
