Ethnic Stance
Ethnic Groups and Elections
Under the 2008 new state constitution, all armed forces in the union are to come under the command of the government's Defense Services. Ethnic ceasefire organizations are currently under heavy pressure to join the electoral process and hand over control of their military wings to the government as part of a new Border Guard Force. While some have agreed to participate others are stepping up military preparations in light of increasing military pressure from the Burmese army.
