The military regime is taking several actions to prepare the country for civilian rule after the November Elections; this includes securing their position in the government and economy. Several high ranking junta officials have officially retired from the army to compete in elections as civilian candidates of the military's proxy party, the USDP (Union Solidarity Development Party).

CIVILIANISATION OF THE REGIME

2010.10.27 USDP leader Htay Oo said Snr-Gen Than Shwe and his deputy Vice Snr-Gen Maung Aye may not be in Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) post-election list of presidential nominees since they are not members of the party

The meeting, which is being attended by USDP candidates including ministers, deputy ministers, director generals of government departments and businessmen close to the regime, included assigning constituencies for party candidates and appointing election campaign managers.
