The junta-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) has a rich campaign war chest giving it a grossly unfair advantage over rivals. It has been lavishly spending on public projects and offers of cheap loans to farmers for votes which are seen as unethical campaign practice.

Foreign Minister Nyan Win reportedly visited his native Zeekone Township, where he is a candidate and provided three-days of free eye examinations and distribution of eyeglasses.
