2010.11.06 NDF The National Democratic Force (NDF) sent a letter to junta chief Snr-Gen Than Shwe and Burma's Union Election Commission (EC) calling for a repudiation of the widespread advance ballots extracted from the voters using dishonest methods.

The candidate for the National Unity Party (NUP) in Hinthada Township in Irrawaddy Division filed a complaint to the Election Commission about illegal practices by his rival, Htay Oo, the general-secretary of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) of collecting advanced votes.

NUP filed a complaint with the Pegu District Election Commission against the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) for violating electoral laws by chanting slogans such as ‘USDP will win’

12 Nov: The EC told candidates who planned to challenge the election results because of alleged irregularities that they could be fined 300,000 kyat (US $340) and sentenced to three years in prison if their accusations are deemed to be unfounded.

Dr. Than Win, Rangoon Division election campaign committee chairman for the National Democratic Force (NDF) party, speaks at a party meeting on October 15, 2010. Local authorities and ward electoral commissions had been interfering with the party’s campaigning ahead of national elections on November 7, and had tried to tarnish the party’s image, further signs that the polls were neither free nor fair, he said.

  • In order to prevent the emergence of vice-president from ethnic Nationalities, the Election Commission prohibited two ethnic Nationalities' parties from contesting in the election so as to prevent potential ethnic candidates from those parties acquiring seats in Nationalities Assembly.
