45 Myanmar junta soldiers killed in ambush near Sagaing’s Pale Township

Local PDFs attacked a 92-vehicle junta convoy just outside Sagaing’s Pale Township and killed about 45 junta soldiers between 26 and 31 May, according to reports.

The fighting took place at the foot of Nagama Mountain near Pale Township.

The PDFs that participated in the attack included, among others, the People's Revolutionary Army (PRA), Myanmar’s Royal Dragon Army (MRDA), Pale PDF and Myaing PDF.

Captain Japan from the PRA explained that the military convoy of 400 soldiers was led by a tank, followed by military trucks in the middle and four military armored vehicles at the tail of convoy. It left the military’s North Western Command in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region and was heading via the Pale to Kyaw Town in Magwe Region’s Gangaw Township.

They were due to go to Military Defence Industry (23), one of several weapons factories controlled by the Myanmar Directorate of Defence Industries, where they were due to exchange their old weapons for newer, more modern ones.

Captain Japan said: “Before they passed through Pale Township the soldiers from the convoy were stationed at Wan Bae Chaing Village at the foot of Nagama Mountain, just outside Pale Township, in Sagaing [Region]. At that time [when they passed the foot of Pale mountain], we fired heavy weapons at their temporary camp and planted mines. The fighting there was fierce. During the battle, three comrades from local PDFs were hit and died. One other was injured but is not in a critical condition.”

According to the PRA over 45 junta soldiers were killed in the attack, but only three PDF fighters died and several received non-life-threatening injuries.
