AA claims 20 Myanmar soldiers killed in Maungdaw battle, Rakhine State

Fighting broke out twice between Military Council, Border Guard Force and Arakan Army (AA) in two different places, namely between Saung Pinya and Sakar Pinyin and between Donekala village and Wet Kyein village in Maungdaw Township on 18 July.

On 20 July, the Arakan Army (AA) announced that approximately 20 members of the Military Council were killed and 14 were captured, stated the names and positions of arrestees and dead junta soldiers.

AA released 14 names and the ranks of arrestees including Police Superintendent Kyaw Tun Aye, Sub-inspector Thura Aung and Lance Corporal Naung Naung.

According to the statement, AA members only suffered minor injuries during the battle.

Military tensions are also rising between the Military Council and the Arakan Army (AA) in Rathedaung Township, northern Rakhine State.

The fighting continues to intensify due to the military operations and activities carried out by junta forces in Rakhine State, according to the AA.
