Former Yangon Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein testified at the corruption trial of ousted Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi that he had handed her large amounts of cash and gold in proceedings supporters say are meant to discredit her, according to AP.

A Special Court in the capital Nay Pyi Taw is hearing four corruption cases against Aung San Suu Kyi, each of which carries a penalty of up to 15 years’ imprisonment, the longest possible prison term of the offenses she has been charged with, according to the report.

Phyo Min Thein, who testified Friday, was arrested by the military like other members of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party and government when it took power on 1 February. The allegations of payoffs were first raised in March by the junta and have been denied by her lawyers.

The court proceedings against Aung San Suu Kyi, 76, are closed to the public and press. She is being held at an undisclosed location in Nay Pyi Taw.
