In what is believed to be an intentional campaign of arson targeting the Chin Christian community, another church has been set on fire in Chin State’s Thlantlang.

According to the church congregation, the hall of a church was set on fire at around 5:30 p.m. on 23 June in the Thlantlang district.

“It is known that the fire broke out in the evening. It is as if the churches are set on fire deliberately because this is the second church that was set on fire within a month. It was set on fire deliberately,” said a member of the congregation.

He added that the Military Council also burnt down the Thlantlang Baptist Church on 9 June.

A total of 12 churches and 20 other religious buildings in Thlantlang have reportedly been burnt since the February 2021 military coup.
