Chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission Resigns

U Aung Kyi, the Chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission, quit as chairman of the commission on December 1, according to U Kyaw Soe, director of Anti-Corruption Commission.

"The chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission resigned voluntarily and today the President's Office allowed it." confirmed by Kyaw Soe, director of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

His resignation had nothing to do with being politically inconsistent with the government and it was not because of economic or social issues, added Director Kyaw Soe.

U Aung Kyi, the chairman of the commission, had been planning long ago to quit, not in a few days. In addition, the term of the chairman of the commission is the same as that of the president, and the term of the commission is going to expire very soon, and all members of the commission must not be older than 75 years of age, according to Section 9 of the Anti-Commission Law. He also said that U Aung Kyi had resigned because he had turned 75 years of age.
