Chin militia force says it killed almost 200 junta soldiers in January

The Chin State Joint Defense Force (CJDF) said on February 3 that they killed 197 junta troops in armed clashes in Chin State in January.

In January, there was a total of 71 clashes between the CJDF and junta troops in eight townships in Chin State. The place were there were the most engagements was Matupi Township with 29 engagements, followed by Mindat Township with 14 clashes.

The CJDF said that 68 junta soldiers were reported injured in the fighting, but that the actual number could be higher. Meanwhile, 18 local militia fighters were killed and 20 were wounded during the fighting.

During Fighting that broke out between junta troops and Chin Defence Forces in Matupi on 6 and 7 January, 11 tourists, including a 13-year-old boy, were captured by the government soldiers and killed. Locals managed to find 10 of the bodies.

Also, during January junta artillery attacks killed 13 civilians and wounded a further 15.

Junta troops are carrying out large offensives in Chin State and local militia forces are fighting back using old, improvised hunting rifles.
