Spokesman for the Chin State government and Minister of Municipal, Electricity and Industry Soe Htet told Mizzima that his government is dissatisfied with the detention of upper house MP Whet Ting and the Arakan Army’s (AA) statement regarding the matter.

Moreover, 43 ethnic Chin organizations issued a joint statement dated November 11 which calls for the release of the MP immediately, and to treat him in accordance with human rights and human dignity norms.

NLD party spokesman Dr. Myo Nyunt said the AA had detained MP Whet Ting for nine days and the organization which detained him must take responsibility for his health and safety.

“They could not produce any evidence against the MP though they claimed they had sound evidence. His family and Khami Youth organization have already explained their accusations are not true. We condemn them if they detain him continually. We issued a statement which called for the release of him at the earliest.”

The statement issued by AA on November 10 accused MP Whet Ting of covering and withholding information on human rights violations by Myanmar (government) troops in Paletwa area, trying to put blame on AA for these crimes and being one of the key persons who are leading anti-AA activities and they already have some evidence which can prove his crimes red handed and they would act accordingly.
