The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar welcomed the positive results achieved by Myanmar's Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services and the meeting with four ethnic armed groups in Muse, Myanmar. It also appreciated the unremitting efforts to promote the peace process of northern Myanmar by all sides, noting progress has been made.

Myanmar's military announced on Tuesday it would extend the suspension period of its military action against armed groups in five military command regions until June 30, according to an announcement of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services.

The move came after a meeting on Tuesday between Myanmar's National Reconciliation and Peace Centre and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Arakan Army (AA) in Muse, Myanmar.

China hopes all relevant sides would be highly restrained, drop armed clashes, and prevent a relapse. The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar said political dialogue should be enhanced and expects new substantial progress to promote the peace in northern Myanmar within the temporary ceasefire period.

"China reaffirms its consistent support for the peace process of Myanmar and is willing to play a constructive role based on the needs of Myanmar. The country will also work closely with Myanmar, making joint efforts to safeguard the China-Myanmar border," the embassy's announcement said on Thursday.
