Dead body of wife of NLD Mandalay chief found on street following capture by soldiers

The dead body of Daw Soe Soe, the wife of National League for Democracy (NLD) vice chairman for Mandalay, was found on the roadside in Mandalay this week.

The wife of Ko Ko Lay, NLD vice-chairman for Mandalay, was arrested on 12 April in an apparent attempt to lure out her husband who is reported to be in hiding. Five military trucks full of armed military personnel, some in civilian clothes, were used in her arrest.

Ko Ko Lay has been charged under Section 505 (a) of the penal code after the military seized power last year.

A source close to the Ko Ko Lay family told Mizzima that the body was found 18 April near the fire station in Mandalay city and had been cremated.

Daw Soe Soe was arrested and reportedly badly tortured before being murdered. She is reported to have been in her fifties.
