Drone drops M9 grenade on junta checkpoint in Sagaing’s Monywa Town

One junta soldier was killed and another injured when when local defence forces dropped an M9 rifle grenade from a drone onto a junta checkpoint near to the Monywa Town Gate in Sagaing Region.

The attack was carried out on 7 September at around 5:00 p.m. by the Black Dragon Defensive Force. A representative from the group said to Mizzima: “If we had more advanced drones and more M9 grenades we would be able to attack more efficiently.”

He explained that the checkpoint was crowded with soldiers because they threaten travelers and extort money from them. So, when the attack was launched there were over 30 junta soldiers at the checkpoint and the grenade dropped straight onto a junta soldier’s head.

He went on to say that M9 grenades cost about 250,000 kyats (approximately $150 USD) and that if his group had more M9 grenades they would be able to better defeat the junta troops.

According to the Black Dragon Defensive Force after they dropped the M9 grenade onto the junta soldiers the soldiers returned fire with 40mm mortars, but all of the defence force fighters were able to retreat unharmed.
