Fighter jets blast Gahe village in Myanmar’s Sagaing region killing one person

A local resident told Mizzima that the Myanmar military used two fighter aircrafts to fire heavy artillery and small arms fire at Gahe village in Sagaing region at 11 am on January 4 killing one person.

According to a local resident of the village that is situated in Indaw township, Katha District, two jet fighters came to strafe Gahe and nearby villages.

Due to the shooting, a woman from Gahe village died and two 15-year-old girls, a five-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy from the village are missing, according to locals. Houses were badly damaged and one burnt down.

"Only our village was fired at. Suddenly, there was no time to avoid it. Fortunately, all people in the village did not die. Our village is a peaceful village. As we live in remote area, we do not have a lot of knowledge. As this happened, we are very frightened. We are hiding today as we heard the news of another plane coming,” said a local resident.

Gahe village is about 10 miles from Indaw township and has more than 70 houses. About 300 people, including the elderly, have fled as a result of the attack, according to local people.
