Fighting in Tanintharyi Township

Local people’s defence forces (PDFs) fought with junta troops in three villages in Tanintharyi Township in Tanintharyi Region’s Myeik District on 14 November.

A combined force from local people's defence force (PDF) groups started fighting with junta troops in the villages of Htone Ngwe, Katelate, and Bawhtikan after junta forces launched offensives against the villages.

The fighting started at 6:00 a.m. on 14 November and at the time of reporting, 4.30 p.m. on 14 November, the fighting was still ongoing.

At that time a PDF soldier said: “The battle has been ongoing since this morning. Because the Military Council is firing heavy artillery, the situation is extremely tense.”

According to reports, three junta soldiers have been killed, one PDF fighter has been injured and there have been civilian casualties.

The junta troops were also firing a new sort of heavy artillery that they have never used before, according to defence force members involved in the fighting.

A villager from the nearby village of Nyaungpinkwin, also in Tanintharyi Township, said: "I heard that there was fighting in the morning and that all of the children at the school had to return home for safety. The military council troops are firing heavy artillery.”

According to locals, the junta troops are using roads and waterways to move reinforcements into the area and launch attacks. The regular junta troops are also being reinforced with junta-aligned Pyu Saw Htee militia members.
