Heavy fighting in Chin State’s Matupi Township kills 12 junta soldiers

Fighting reportedly broke out on 4 May when Chin Defence Force fighters intercepted a convoy of junta troops traveling from Matupi Township to Mindat-Kyaukhtu in Chin State.

The combat between the junta troops and the CDF-Mindat fighters lasted for more than two hours from 3:30 pm, on 4 May, killing five troops of military junta and wounding several others, according to the announcement of the CDF-Mindat.

A group led by the CDF-Mindat battalion commander carried out a guerrilla attack, killing seven troops of the military junta the following morning, according to a statement.

A CDF-Mindat fighter told Mizzima the fighting took place in bad weather.

“The local resistance force has set an example for the whole country in this revolution, but the aid only comes from Mindat people staying abroad, so I would like to say that people should not forget to give support,” he said.

CDF-Mindat fighters were able to withdraw safely after the 4 May clash, although a CDF-Mindat fighter was killed by a landmine.

The area has been the scene of fierce fighting over the last 10 days.

The CDF brigade attacked a convoy of more than 70 vehicles near Mile 71 on the Mindat-Matupi road on 30 April, killing four junta troops and seriously injuring three others, according to a statement from the CDF. Other clashes took place 1-4 May on the Mindat-Matupi road making it a “death trap” for junta troops.
