Indian train companies offer Myanmar help with electric locomotive development

Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) in India has offered to help Myanmar develop facilities for design and training to develop electric locomotives for Myanmar, The Times of India reports.

Following a request from a five-man Myanmar delegation that visited the BLW works in Varanasi, the company says it will help Myanmar with its rail development, according to the report on 14 August.

The report says Aung Myaing, deputy minister of Myanmar’s Ministry of Transport and Communications, led a delegation to visit the BLW facilities on Friday, where both electric and diesel train motors are worked on and developed.

The general manager of BLW Anjali Goyal said his company would extend help to Myanmar with electrification including engines, rolling stock, power and transformers.

The Myanmar delegation also visited another Indian railway firm of Braithwaite & Co. Ltd.
