Indiscriminate junta artillery fire in Shan State’s Pekon injures three, one seriously

A junta field artillery regiment based in Shan State’s Pekon Township indiscriminately fired heavy artillery and two shells damaged a house and injured three people.

The shells landed in in La-Ei village, west of Pekon at 9:30 p.m. on 9 November.

A local resident said: “The shells landed directly on a house. However, the house owners were not at home at the time because they were out farming. But, three people were injured near the house, one of whom was seriously injured.”

According to villagers, the seriously injured villager is U Kai, age 56 and he is in a critical condition after shrapnel hit him in the stomach. The other two injured villagers were Mu Htaunt, age 81, Mumar Tha, age 44.

Following the attack, the local people’s defence forces (PDFs) based in Pekon Township issued a statement saying that there might soon be fighting between them and the junta army. They also warned people to take shelter when the junta fired artillery into villages.
