Junta arrests man with improvised artillery shells in Mandalay

Residents of the Thiri Mingalar housing estate near Mandalay Royal Palace say a young man was arrested 24 June in possession of “free-flight rockets” believed to have been used to attack junta soldiers in the district.

Thiri Mingalar housing is located in Chan Aye Thazan Township near Mandalay Royal Palace, where the  Central Military Command is located.

“Junta’s soldiers raided Thiri Mingalar housing claiming that resistance forces are there. Later, the Military Council reported one person had been arrested. The organization the young man may belong to is still unknown,” a resident told Mizzima.

The rockets are said to be improvised artillery shells that can be fired at targets.

The details are unclear. A total of three young men may have been arrested inside the housing complex, one with the artillery shells. However, Mizzima has not been able to confirm the details. The area surrounding the Thiri Mingalar housing is currently being locked down and inspected by Military Council troops.
