Junta charges 63 artists, entertainers who changed their FB profile to ‘Accept NUG Reject Military’

The Myanmar military junta has charged 63 artists, entertainers and well-known Myanmar citizens who changed their Facebook profile to support the political campaign “Accept NUG, Reject Military” under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Yangon West District Police Station recently ordered all townships in Yangon Region to compile a list of participants in the "“Accept NUG, Reject Military" profile campaign on Facebook.

With many Myanmar Facebook users upset with the junta, a number have been changing their profile to push the message of support for the National Unity Government or NUG.

“As a show that NUG is the only legitimate government for a UN special envoy to represent Myanmar at the UN General Assembly in mid-September, the ‘Accept NUG. "Reject Military, Profile campaign is conducted,” said one activist.

The military council claims social media campaigners are not only supporters of the NUG but also the instigators and propagandists for terrorist activities.

The 63 artists and celebrities are charged under Section 505 (a) during the anti-military protests. Artistes, whose cases were closed by the military council, have also been charged again for the participation in this movement.

Millions of people are taking an active part in the ""Accept NUG, Reject Military" with the NUG logo campaign that started on August 10.
