KNLA commander killed in attack on Myanmar junta base in Karen State

The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) reports that one of their top military commanders was killed in a battle to occupy Kyauk Nyat outpost, a Military Council base.

Colonel Saw Htoo Ka Shaw, a strategic commander for the KNLA 5 th Brigade was killed in combat with the junta soldiers in Hpapun District, Karen State on 28 April in the morning.

Pado Saw Taw Nee, a KNU official, told Mizzima that the specifics of the clash are still unknown, but they could confirm the death of Colonel Saw Htoo Ka Shaw.

The Kyauk Nyat post, which is located close the Thai border on the Thanlwin River, is the headquarters of the Military's Infantry Battalion (434) with roughly 20 military personnel.

The KNLA fighters were able to seize the post, which prompted the Military Council to use air strikes to attack nearby villages along the Thanlwin River, Pado Saw Taw Nee said.

This year, the KNLA has already attacked and occupied two Military Council posts, Thee Muhta and Taw Lel Hta, as well as the Kyauk Nyat post, in the KNLA 5 th Brigade area.
