Medical Superintendent shot dead in Palate Town, Mandalay

Dr. Tin Cho Cho, the medical superintendent of Myitnge Railway Hospital in Palate Town, Mandalay was fatally shot by two unidentified men on 15 May.

The men entered Dr. Tin Cho Cho's private clinic in front of the Electric Power Corporation office in Palate Town at 5:30 p.m. and started shooting at the doctor who died when a bullet hit her in the neck.

Whilst working as the medical superintendent at Myitnge Railway Hospital, 54-year-old Dr. Tin Cho Cho had oppressed health workers there who were taking part in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM). She informed the junta about those who were CDM members so that they could be arrested.

“She had a very bad reputation in Myitnge Town. When dealing with hospital patients she was very haughty, she also communicated with military personnel. Now she has been murdered, I think it was because of her bad behaviour and bad reputation”, said a Myitnge Town resident.

According to a police source, a 9mm shell case made in Thailand was reportedly discovered near the scene of the incident.

According to a local resident, junta soldiers arrived at the clinic about 15 minutes after Dr. Tin Cho Cho had been killed. They checked the area around the clinic and checked the Palate Town guest registration lists.

Junta personnel also started checking people at the entrances of Myitnge and Palate Town on the morning of 16 May.

Also on 16 May, about 20 junta soldiers entered Thetyattan Village in Palate. They checked the previous night’s guest lists and instructed the locals to notify the administrator immediately if any outsiders entered or left the village.

It is not yet known who killed Dr. Tin Cho Cho and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the killing.

Previously, on 3 October 2022, the head of the Palate Police Station and the Palate Town Administrator were also shot dead.
