Myanmar guerrilla groups clash with police in east Yangon

Urban guerrilla groups attacked Shwepaukkan police station in North Okkalapa Township, Yangon at 8:00 p.m. on 4 August. The police station was hit with grenades by the attackers and then there was an exchange of gunfire.

Ko Min Thein, the leader of Generation-Y Guerilla (GYG) informed Mizzima that the attack was carried out by Myit Ma Kha Special Force and its allies GYG.

"We are still investigating the damage and causalities as a result of the attack. We exchanged fire during the attack. But we were able to retreat without harm," Ko Min Thein said.

The police reportedly returned fire, shooting four rounds in response, the urban fighter said.

The detailed circumstances of the subsequent injuries and damage have yet to be reported.

There is reported to have been an uptick in guerrilla attacks against junta targets in the wake of the furor over the execution of four pro-democracy activists late last month.
