A video released on 19 August purports to show a Myanmar army fleet sailing upstream from Katha, Sagaing Region to Bhamo in Kachin state being attacked by missiles, according to Katha PDF.

The fleet contained supply ships and six warships was attacked by free-flight missiles and electric-shocked grenades launchers on 18 August at 11:00 am along the Ayeyarwaddy River near Nakuu Village, six miles north of Katha town.

“We attacked the fleet with electric-shock grenades launchers and nine propelled free-flight rockets. The last ship in the fleet was hit directly. There may have been casualties, even though unable to confirm by eyewitness as they were far away from the river-bank,” an officer-in charge of the military and recruitment of Katha PDF said.

An attack helicopter and a fighter jet reportedly provided security for the junta fleet and “returned fire blindly” along the river, according to the Katha PDF.

The attack was led by the All Burmese Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) and was carried out by local coalition forces of the Katha Township PDF and other local defense forces.
