Myanmar junta soldiers defect to resistance groups in Chin State

Myanmar junta personnel from Chin State’s Mindat, Matupi and Kanpatlet townships reportedly surrendered to local defense forces from the respective areas, according to an announcement the Chin Defence Force on 21 July.

Kyauktu PDF announced that Min Hein Naing, a private soldier from Battalion No (274) based in Mindat Township was awarded 8 million kyat and taken to a liberated area because he surrendered to Kyauktu PDF with one MA-1 gun, five magazines and 270 bullets on 18 July.

CDF Matupi reported on 18 July that Phyo Wai Oo, a private soldier from Light Infantry Battalion (LIB - 304) based on Matupi township, was taken to a liberated area as he surrendered to the CDF-Matupi.

Pyay San Naung, a policeman at the Kanpatlet police station surrendered with a G-3 battle rifle to CDF Kanpatlet and he was awarded 6 million kyat, according to a statement from the CDF-Kanpatlet on 20 July.

Increasing numbers of junta forces are defecting to the Myanmar resistance or People’s Defence Forces.
