Myanmar junta troops killed more than 20 people, including a six-year-old child and burned down houses in villages in Sagaing Region's Yinmarbin Township.

On 11 August, two junta helicopters attacked Yin Paung Tai Village and surrounding villages in Yinmarbin Township. Then, fighting between junta troops and local People’s Defence Forces (PDFs) broke out in the area and continued until 15 August.

Junta troops also stationed themselves in villages in Yinmarbin Township from 11 August to 15 August during which time they killed villagers and burned down houses for no reason.

"More than 20 people have died since helicopters fired on us on 11 August and more than 20 people have been arrested. The child was trapped in a burning house and died in the fire," said a local resident.

They added: "It wasn't only Yin Paung Tai Village that was burned. Houses in Pa Htoe Thar and nearby villages were also burned down. A lot of cows, buffaloes and horses died.  The Military Council troops put the bodies of people who had been killed in Yin Paung Tai Village into a pile and burned them. We buried the remaining bodies."

The junta and PDF forces suffered casualties in the fighting between 11 and 15 August, but the exact number of casualties is currently unknown, according to a PDF member.
