The National Unity Government (NUG) announced on August 20 that a letter of acceptance had officially been submitted to the International Criminal Court (ICC) registrar, which has agreed to the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute war crimes committed by the coup military in Myanmar.

The Myanmar military allegedly carried out genocide against the Rohingya living in Rakhine State and committed war crimes against the entire ethnic population. The statement was submitted in accordance with Article 12 (3) of the International Criminal Court.

The NUG said the submission could lead the International Criminal Court (ICC) to reach an agreement on the exercise of the tribunal's jurisdiction to a country that has not ratified the treaty (the Rome Statute).

The NUG said that the statement was handed over to the tribunal's registrar on July 17 for further consideration.

The NUG announced they are working hard not only to look into the atrocities committed by the military but also to bring justice for all crimes committed in the past.
