Media assessment of the carnage committed by Myanmar security forces indicate that possibly more than 100 people may have been killed on Armed Forces Day.

Security forces shot at protesters in many areas of the country on the day when the military held their parade for the 76th anniversary of Armed Forces Day in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday.

According to DVB news service, at least 80 civilians, including a 13-year-old girl in Meikhtila, Mandalay region and a seven-year-old boy in Shwebo, Sagaing Division, had been reportedly killed in nearly 40 townships in a single day.

With the numbers continuing to come in, the total tally on this day of bloodshed could be over 100, according to various media sources.

Myanmar Commander in Chief Min Aung Hlaing warned in his speech on Armed Forces Day that acts of so-called "terrorism" were unacceptable. In an earlier statement, the junta warned that people could be “shot in the head or back” if they challenged the government.

The embassies of the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom all condemned the bloodshed.

Meanwhile, the U.S Embassy in Myanmar confirmed that shots were fired at the American Center in Yangon on the day, but no injuries were reported.
