Over 10,000 people from 10 villages have been displaced by Military Council offensives in Khin U Township, Sagaing Region, according to a resistance information officer from Khin U Township.

After Military Council checkpoints and vehicles were attacked with landmines along the Ye U-Khin U road on 20 September by combined resistance forces, the junta suffered heavy losses. Hence, they have deployed and launched an offensive in Khin U Township.

The offensive prompted villagers to flee on ox and bullock carts and motorcycles in the early morning of 21 September.

Over 10,000 local residents of 3,000 households from 10 villages such as Ywar Thit, Kan Thit, Mu Thar, Thet Pay, Anyar Thiha Taw, Shwe Mingan, Thin Paung, Ka Boak, Koak Tet and Yone Pin villages, have reportedly fled.

A local witness told Mizzima that not only adults but also elders fled with the ox-carts at 4 or 5 am in the morning.

“Me, myself saw a woman who was recently delivered a child also fleeing to the safe place or another village for their lives and for their safety,” he said. “The villagers are afraid of the military column because they (junta soldiers) burn down the village, take hostages with them and even kill people.”
