Peacock Generation Thangyat team said that they would bravely face the case brought by the Tatmadaw (defence services) since this was a political issue.

The team spoke while they were leaving the courtroom in Mayangon Township, Yangon after the five members were produced before the court for a second time on April 29.

Peacock Generation Thangyat team member Zeyar Lwin, one of the accused, said, “All of our cases are political issues so that they need to resolve them as political issues. And also, I’d like to say all of us need to join the work for amending the 2008 constitution being done in parliament. In my opinion all of these issues can be resolved if we can do the primary work of amending the constitution.”

The Tatmadaw filed a case against Peacock Generation Thangyat team members Pai Ye Thu, Zeyar Lwin, Kay Khaing Tun, Deyay aka Pai Phyo Min and Pho Thar aka Zaw Lin Tun, at the Mayangon Township court in direct a complaint under section 505(a) of Penal Code (public mischief) on April 18.

“They prosecuted us on Thangyat issue based on my works in this team. I see Thangyat as a superficial matter but I see the real underlying cause of this prosecution is a political issue. So, we will face this case at the court bravely as it is the political issue,” Zeyar Lwin added.

Lt. Col. Than Tun Myint from Yangon Military Region Command registered the case against Peacock Generation Thangyat team saying the Thangyat the team recited was damaging the image of Tatmadaw.

Deyay aka Pai Phyo Min from Peacock Generation Thangyat team also said while leaving the courtroom, “We have proved there is a group of people who are still afraid of Thangyat and reciting of Thangyat as if they were Kamawa (Pali text recited by Buddhist monks in religious rituals).”

This Peacock Generation Thangyat team did not present their Thangyat for censorship as required and then they were not allowed to perform in Thingyan festival at prize awarding pavilions but they performed their Thangyat on April 12, the eve day of the Thingyan festival, in Maubin, Ayeyarwady Region and posted their live performance on Facebook.
