Authorities have said that a family (four members) stealthily came back from Thailand to Chaung Mon village in Boatpyin Township in Kawthaung in Tanintharyi Region. Authorities went and tried to bring them to a quarantine centre, but the house-owner, Thet Naing, wielding a sword, tried to attack the officials, said the village administrative-office chief.

When authorities ordered the four people to be quarantined in the Facility Quarantine Centre at Boatpyin Indoor Stadium, the house owner U Thein Naing, who was drunk according to villagers, wielded a sword and was shot by police.

Currently, Thein Naing is receiving medical treatment at Pyigyi Mandine Hospital. He was sued under article 307 and 353 of the Myanmar Penal Code. The other four people are now in quarantine.
