Police station chief and officers killed in Mon State police station attack

A combined force of the Red Dragon Column defence force and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) attacked Chaug-Hnakwa Village police station in Mon State’s Kyaikmaraw Township, at around 6:00 a.m. on 12 November.

According to the Red Dragon Column, three police officers, including the police station chief were killed, four were arrested and three escaped.

According to reports, the three killed officers were the police station chief Hla Kyaw U Lance Corporal Soe Nyein U, and Private Nanzun.

The arrested police officers were named as Sergeant Aye Ko, Police officer Lwin Ko Hein, Lance Corporal Myo Aye, and Police officer Ko Lin. Sub-inspector Nandar Soe and police officer Talar Ko both managed to run away from the attack.

Saw El, an Adjutant Captain of Red Dragon Column said: “We were successful in our attack. The military council then launched airstrikes on the battle area. As a result, people had to flee to safety. Homes and buildings near battle area were also destroyed.”

He then gave a list of the weapons they had captured. They included: one AK-47, four M-16s, one G3 machine gun, one 60-mm short gun, two claymores, 200 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 50 rounds of M-16 ammunition, 300 rounds of G3 ammunition, and ten rounds of 60-mm mortar ammunition.

Following the attack on the police station in Chaug-Hnakwa Village the junta launched airstrikes on Chaug-Hnakwa and the nearby villages Kawsat, Mayangone, Kuchalabat, and Kyonekwal, also in Kyaikmaraw Township.

The airstrikes displaced 6,000 people who fled their homes in fear.
