Revolutionary forces say ‘true liberation can only be achieved if nationalism is eradicated’

Revolutionary forces in Myanmar point out that they can only build a federal democratic country and achieve true civil liberation if the bad habits of party ideology and religious division are eradicated in this revolution.

Revolutionary forces offered their point of view at the first National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) conference held on January 27.

Given there has been no liability for past and present violations under military dictatorship and the rise of fascism, ultranationalism, and the lack of political will to build a true federal democratic country, should be eradicated in this revolution, according to the General Strike Committee (GSC).

“There can be no true liberation without the eradication of old bad ideology. We should pay special attention to discuss these issues during the People's Congress,” a spokesperson from GSC said.

GSC also urged people to strongly oppose the idea of kneeling down and negotiating with the junta in the pursuit of federal democracy.

Due to the long history of the military dictatorship and ultranationalism, true national unity hads never been achieved and that the goal of national equality and self-determination was far away, Khant Wai Phyo, a member of the Monywa People's Strike Committee said.

“There is a political awakening among people of all races and we all noticed about the dangers of military dictatorship and ultranationalism after the military coup and then our common goals became the same,” he added.

Revolutionary forces have commented that the NUCC, which has been instrumental in building a federal democracy, is unprecedented in the history of Myanmar or Burma.

The NUCC-led People's Congress is the highest political representation of the people who have the same common goals. Therefore, the people's congress should be held in a meaningful manner with good decisions and approvals that will empower the people, Khant Wai Phyo said.

The NUCC convened the peoples’ congress from January 27 to 29 and the three processes will be ratified including through the National Unity Government (NUG), the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) and a federal democratic interim constitution.
