Spring Revolution Daily News for 12 October 2022 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In an NUG meeting on Tuesday, the Acting President stated that it was necessary to think beyond the stage of destroying or not recognizing the junta election in 2023. 
  • In the 71st government meeting, the NUG Acting President claimed that the junta army was behaving stupidly and not conducting itself in a proper way. 
  • The NUG Union Prime Minister stated that the year to come must be a year of judgment for the revolution. He also urged all revolutionary forces, including the NUG, to work in harmony. 
  • At the 77th United Nations General Assembly on Monday, Myanmar’s Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun reported that the junta army had killed 91 children aged below 14 since their February 2021 military coup in Myanmar. 
  • U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, called on the UN Security Council to ask the International Criminal Court (ICC) to take action against the inhumane activities of the military junta. 

Revolutionary Activities 

  • In Minkin Township in Sagaing Region, there was a battle between the junta fleet of vessels and local PDFs near Phatkhat Village at about 8:00 am on Tuesday. 
  • On Tuesday, a combined rally of villagers from Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Kani Township, there was an anti-junta protest with lights in a village. 
  • In Kani Township, local people expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship on Tuesday morning, chanting anti-junta slogans. 
  • In Taze Township, there was a heavy fighting between local PDFs and the junta army coming into an area near Shweta Village at about 9:00 am on Tuesday. Reportedly, no less than 20 junta soldiers died and 20 others were injured. 
  • In Salingyi, an alliance of the Brother defense force conducted its second attack with 40mm, 60mm, 80mm and 120mm grenades on junta armed forces in the police station and other junta locations in the town at about 9:00 pm on Monday. 
  • In the east of Wetlet Township, local PDFs warned on Tuesday that the public was not to use the Sheinmakar-Kyaukmyaung road section due to heavy battles in the area. 
  • In Banmauk Township, there was fighting between the junta army and a combined force of the KIA and PDFs starting at 9:30 am on Tuesday. 
  • In Kani Township, Kyauklonegyi PDF urged PyuSaw Htee members to have the right view and join the public. 
  • In Salingyi Township, Salingyi G-Z People's Defence Force claimed on Tuesday that PDFs had been opening inspection gates in the area and that they would fight for the downfall of the military dictatorship. 
  • In Myaung Township, the junta army set fire to Nyaungkayar Village and Pannyo Village. On the way back, they were attacked with mines by PDFs. Reportedly, six junta soldiers died and 20 others were injured. 
  • On Sunday, Daunglulin PDF based in Yinmarbin managed to produce two 60mm grenades and bullets. 
  • According to a member of the Executive Committee, the Union Betterment Party (UBP), led by former General Thura Shwe Man, will be excluded from the registry of political parties. 
  • In North Dagon Township in Yangon Region, there was a bomb explosion on the 7/8 crossroads at about 5:00 am on Tuesday. 
  • In Sanchaung Township, a combined force of the Freeland Attack Force (FLA), the Emerald Girls Army (EGA) and the Revolution of 21 Century conducted an attack with remote mines on the junta traffic police camp near the local court on Baho Road at 8:00 pm Monday. 
  • In North Dagon Township, there was a car bomb explosion in Ward (36) on Monday evening. Reportedly, the driver was seriously injured. 
  • In Wandwin Township in Mandalay Region, the junta army shot at two people on a motorbike for no apparent reason in the west of Tanaunggone Village at about 7:00 pm Monday. Reportedly, one of the motorcyclists died and another one was seriously injured. 
  • On Tuesday, the Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement. 
  • In Pwintphyu Township in Magwe Region, the junta army arrested no less than 10 people from Sanpya Village on Tuesday morning. 
  • On the Yay-Dawei road section, a military convoy was attacked with mines twice near Maungme Shaung Bridge at about 6:00 am on Tuesday. Reportedly, there might have been casualties among junta soldiers. 
  • In Kawa Township of Bago Region, five local people who were arrested by the junta army, have been out of contact with their family members for three months. 
  • In Mawlamyeingyung in Ayeyarwaddy Region, the administrator of Ward (11) was shot dead on 5 October. After the incident, the junta army arrested no less than 30 local people including trishaw drivers. 
  • On Monday, the Pathein Special Task Force warned 10 local shops to replace their the junta Myanmar Beer they are selling with other products within one month. 
  • At 1:00 pm on 29 October, the movie directed by Ko Pauk will be shown in Mizoram State in India. 
  • According to the Karen Human Rights Group, there have been over 350,000 IDPs in Kayin State since the military coup and half of them are children. 
  • On Sunday, the Chin Tumi Lottery announced that the revolutionary fund from their fifth round had been allocated to local CDFs and IDPs. 
  • According to Human Rights Watch, the military junta used the passenger ships, which were donated by Japan for civilians, in military attacks in September. 

Ethnic Armed Organisations 

  • On Monday night, the Arakan Army (AA) announced that it had lost a member in the battle to take hold of the junta Laitya Border Camp in Maungdaw Township of Rakhine State. 
  • On Monday, the ULA/AA sent a statement of condolences on the loss of Ko Phyo Wai Soe, the Second Military Chief of the Yaw Defence Force. 
  • In Maingkaing Township in Shan South, there was an RPG attack on the Shan State Progressive Party (SSPP) office on Tuesday morning. Reportedly, a member was injured. 
  • In Maungdaw Township in Rakhine State, there was an exchange of fire between the junta army and the AA on Monday morning. Reportedly, a mortar round fired by junta soldiers fell into Laitya Village and killed a Rohingya man. 

The Military Council 

  • On Monday afternoon, a delegation from the New Mon State Party (NMSP), led by its Vice-Chair, arrived at Naypyitaw to attend the junta peace talks. 
  • According to the junta Committee on Fuel Oil, ships will unload nearly 10 million gallons of fuel oil at Thilawa Port in Yangon Region. 
  • The junta Ministry of Energy announced that it would run an open tender process for private businesses wanting to buy over a gallon of crude oil. 
  • From 11 to 16 October, the reference rate for the wholesale cost of edible oil in Yangon Region was fixed at 3,880 MMK per viss by the junta Edible Oil Committee.
  • The junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce announced that they were starting to export 250,000 tons of rice to Bangladesh.
  • According to the BBC, the military junta has restricted imports, to control the trade deficit and foreign currency. Consequently, imports have significantly decreased in the 18 months since the military coup, compared to imports under the civilian government. 

Summary on 12 October 

  • As the junta prepares for the election, the Union Betterment Party, led by the former General Thura Shwe Man, will be dissolved. The UBP might know that there would be little chance for them to succeed in a junta-controlled election. 
  • The military junta has been arranging to hold the election by force for its own self-interest. On the other hand, anti-junta activities have become more frequent and bigger.
