The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On the 72nd Karen Martyrs’ Day, the NUG sent a statement that they would join hands with Karen ethnic armed organizations and work for a union with federal democracy.
  • On the 75th anniversary of Mon Revolution Day on Thursday, the NUG sent their best wishes for the equality and self-determination of Mon people as well as for the emergence of federal democratic union.
  • In their statement to the 72nd Karen Martyrs’ Day, Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw-CRPH expressed that they would keep their commitment to building a federal nation with justice and peace.
  • In accordance with the guidance of the interim education by the NUG, there have been community-based schools with monthly tests in Butalin Township of Sagaing Region. Reportedly, they organized a prize-winning ceremony for outstanding students on Friday.

Revolution Activities

  • In Ye-U Township of Sagaing Region, an alliance of PDFs attacked the junta army on their way out from Chantha Village on Friday morning. Reportedly, 10 junta soldiers died.
  • In Banmauk Township, there was an attack on the junta general administration department on Friday morning. Reportedly, military officer Kyaw Min Han, a member of the junta township administration, died on the spot.
  • According to Monywa Township PDF, they managed to produce rifles.
  • At 3:45 am Friday, a convoy of 13 military trucks was attacked with mines by local PDFs on the way from Monywa to Sagaing.
  • On the bypass of Myinmu, a military convoy was attacked with mines on Friday morning. Reportedly, a military truck stopped and there might have been casualties among junta soldiers.
  • Under the guidance of Monywa Township PDF, their weapon production unit has been distributing small guns and a variety of mines.
  • As a 519-day protest, a combined rally of villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship.
  • On Friday, Kalay General Strike protested against the military dictatorship, holding a banner for strong determination.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of 3 villages marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • Somewhere in Mandalay, local groups marched in the rain, holding anti-junta signs.
  • On Friday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • In Ngazun Township, a car with 5 junta soldiers was attacked with mines by local PDFs on Thursday afternoon.
  • According to the Burmese Students’ Union on Friday, Ko Naung Htet Aung, former Chair of Education University Students’ Union, was beaten in Obo Prison for his hunger strike calling for the end of the junta’s executions.
  • In Gantgaw Township of Magwe Region, local defence forces found the mines, allegedly set by the junta army, in the cracks of Myittha Dam.
  • In Pwint Phyu Township, local people conducted an indoors strike on Friday, calling for the Chinese government to respect the desire of Myanmar people and not to stand by the military junta.
  • In Shwepyitha Township of Yangon Region, a combined rally of students’ unions conducted an anti-junta movement on the 72nd Karen Martyrs’ Day, hanging a banner - ‘Fight against ethnocentrism. There are more than 9 martyrs’.
  • In Thingangyun Township, there was a gunfire at the junta immigration office at 3:00 pm Friday. Reportedly, the immigration officer was injured and the deputy officer died.
  • In Shwepyitha Township and North Dagon Township, there were bomb explosions at the junta administration offices on Thursday night. Reportedly, 4 household leaders were injured.
  • In Insein Township, an alternate firefighter and a civilian got shot in Danyingone Ward on Friday morning.
  • On Thursday, People’s Security and Defence Army announced that they would carry out surprise checks at fuel shops in Shan North to see if they really had run out of oil. They would take action against those who don’t sell to the public although they have enough fuel oil.
  • In Yay Township of Mon State, a military convoy was attacked with mines near Painnedaw Village at about 1:00 pm Thursday. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died.
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, a combined rally of Lonekhine Group protested against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • From 11 to 21 August, there will be Spring Revolution Painting Exhibition in Melbourne of Australia to raise funds for support of the needy in Myanmar.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • On the 72nd Karen Martyrs’ Day, the Chair of Karen National Union-KNU stated that according to attitudes and activities of the military junta, they lack the desire to have negotiations with armed revolution forces and resolve political issues.
  • On Friday, the 72nd anniversary of Karen Martyrs’ Day was celebrated in the area under the control of the KNU Brigade (7).
  • In Mone Township of Nyaunglebin District under KNU Brigade (3), there were 4 battles between the junta army and KNLA Regiment (8) on 5, 6 and 10 August. Reportedly, 12 junta soldiers including an officer died and many others were injured.
  • In Muse Township under the control of Ta’ang National Liberation Army-TNLA, the junta army attacked the TNLA Camp near Pansone Village on Thursday.
  • According to Chinland Joint Defence Committee, there were 220 battles in Chin State and Sagaing Region between 1 February and 31 July 2022. Reportedly, 927 members of the junta armed forces died.

The Military Council

  • In the rainy season planting event in Nay Pyi Taw, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that it was necessary to preserve forests for the sustainability of water resources in the country.
  • On Thursday, there was a meeting between the junta leader and the delegation of Japanese Liberal Democratic Party led by MP Mr. Hiromichi Watanabe to promote investments and economic relations between the two countries.
  • According to a confidential letter of the military junta, they have been negotiating with the Indian government to bring back and arrest those who have run away to India due to the military coup.
  • On Friday, the junta fuel oil committee announced that the petrol price increased ranging from 2245 MMK to 2720 MMK per litre in the local market.
  • Due to a variety of the junta’s financial policies, the prices of gold and USD have increased sharply in the local market. Reportedly, a tical of gold was worth over 26 lakh MMK and a USD was worth over 2800 MMK on Friday.
  • Although the military junta announced that a viss of edible oil was 3700 MMK, it was worth over 10,000 MMK in the local market.
  • On Thursday night, the junta Health Ministry announced that there had been no deaths related to COVID-19 in the country for 126 days and it was the first case of such a death the previous day.
  • The junta Health Minister said that students would be given anti-worm tablets in the weeks for school health.
  • On 26 August, State Counselor Daw Aung San Su Kyi will have to make her final statement regarding the charge of electoral fraud.
  • The junta Election Commission in Chin State has been checking household population lists in Hakha and Paletwa as their pilot project for an accurate voter list.
  • According to Defense Express, the junta Navy would procure BrahMos projectiles, jointly produced by Russia and India, with loans from India.

Summary on 12 August 2022

  • After the military coup, the general public have had to live with fear. They have been arrested and murdered. Their villages have been burnt down to ashes. On the other hand, they have had to struggle with their daily basic needs. Due to the junta’s mismanagement, the prices of fuel oil, gold, USD and edible oil have increased sharply and the same is true for the cost of living, posing challenges to the public.
  • Throughout the country, there have been battles. In Mone of Kayin State and Banmauk of Sagaing Region, there were attacks in towns, resulting in a large number of casualties among junta soldiers including officers. As for Yinminbin Township, they were faced with the junta’s air strikes, causing the loss of PDF members. Reportedly, junta soldiers arrested hundreds of local people as hostages and killed some of them.
