The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Union Minister of Planning, Finance and Investment-NUG said that they would not acknowledge the junta’s local and international loans.
  • To commemorate International Youth Day, Ministry of Women, Youth and Children-NUG has been organizing sports competitions, essay contests and talk shows from 12 to 17 August.
  • Under the guidance of the Ministry of Health-NUG, preventive measures against dengue fever were carried out in a village of Yinmabin Township in Sagaing Region on Saturday.

Revolution Activities

  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army conducted four air strikes on Yinbaungdine Village within two days. Consequently, 4 villagers died, 30 others were injured and 4 PDF members were missing. Military helicopters landed there 8 times and strengthened their force with about 200 junta soldiers.
  • In Wetlet Township, a military convoy was attacked with mines on their way to Hladaw Village. Reportedly, no less than 10 junta soldiers died.
  • In Monywa, local PDFs shot 18 mortars into Northwest Military Headquarters on Friday evening.
  • In Myinmu Township, a military car was attacked with mines by local PDF at 5:38 pm Friday. Reportedly, it came to a stop suddenly and then moved on with smoke billowing.
  • In Banmauk Township, there was a fighting between the junta army and local PDF near Paygone Village at about 11:00 am Saturday.
  • In Dibeyin Township, the junta armed forces invaded the area on Saturday morning. Reportedly, thousands of local people along their way have had to run away.
  • In Taze Township, no less than 10 junta soldiers died in local battles for two days.
  • On Saturday, Kyauklonegyi PDF announced that local people were to take caution as one of the junta vessels was on their way down Chindwin River from Kalaywa.
  • According to PDF Kalay, only 25% was achieved during the first ten days of AK 5,000 Bullets Challenge. They also called for more contributions from the public.
  • As a 520-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • On Saturday, Kalay General Strike led a march against the military dictatorship.
  • In Dibeyin Township, there was a protest against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, the junta army has been invading Yaylegyung area for nearly a month. On Saturday morning, they set fire to Hlekoat Village.
  • On Friday, Ko Wai Moe Naing, a protest leader in Monywa, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for 5 charges under Section 505.
  • Special Task Agency of Burma - STA) announced that they had carried out the gunfire at the junta immigration office in Thingangyun Township of Yangon Region.
  • Kyaw Moe, the junta immigration supervisor, who tried to catch underground guerrillas in the gunfire at Thingangyun Township Office, was killed. Reportedly, his funeral will be carried out on Sunday.
  • In Shwepyitha Township, a member of the junta administration in Ward (8) was shot dead on Saturday afternoon.
  • In Sanchaung Township, Emerald Girls Army (EGA) conducted an attack with remote mines on the junta administration office in Kyungle Ward at about 5:00 am Saturday.
  • On the 55th anniversary of Sittway Rice Crisis, a combined rally of students’ unions led an anti-junta movement on Saturday.
  • In Mingaladone Township, there was a bomb attack on a sub-power station on Friday.
  • According to Freeland Attack Force – FLA, their vice supervisor Comrade Sunye sacrificed his life during junta interrogation.
  • On Saturday evening, People’s Defence Force Mandalay warned all local fuel shops that they would give them 5 days to prepare to provide enough fuel oil for the public.
  • In Wandwin Township of Mandalay Region, a military car was attacked with mines on Yangon-Mandalay Road on Saturday morning. Reportedly, there may have been casualties.
  • In Pauk Township of Magwe Region, the junta army raided Shazaychet Village on Thursday and burnt down over 20 houses. They also killed Ko Ye Win Naing.
  • In Bago, local strike groups hung an anti-junta banner on Beli Bridge on Saturday morning.
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, a rally of villagers marched for the NUG and against the military dictatorship on Saturday morning.
  • On the border of Ywangan Township in Shan South and Thazi Township in Mandalay Region, the junta army took control of a PDF camp on 10 August. Although local PDF had to let go of their camp, there were no casualties among them.
  • In Loikaw Township of Karenni State, 3 troops of junta soldiers invaded the area. Consequently, there have been battles since 9 August.
  • In Fruso Township, no less than 2 junta soldiers died and a PDF member lost life in the battles near Solarku Village.
  • Former Captain Nay Myo Zin, who had been detained for his criticism of the military junta, was released on Saturday.
  • According to Burmese Students’ Union, their protest leader and members were sentenced to imprisonment and reportedly they would be transferred to other prisons.
  • A combination of 386 Civil Society Organizations expressed their objection to a statement of 12 organizations referring Min Aung Hlaing as honorable prime minister, a letter sent through an “administrative mistake”. Reportedly, HRW apologized for their mistake and formally withdrew their letter.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Yathetaung Township of Rakhine State, there was a battle between the junta army and Arakan Army-AA on Saturday morning.
  • In Maungdaw Township, AA arrested 3 Dinet ethnic people from Kamaungseik Village on Friday afternoon.
  • In Mone Township under the control of Karen National Union-KNU, the junta armed forces have arrested local people. They have also killed domesticated animals for their food.
  • On Saturday morning, two members of the Arakan Liberation Party, who were looking after livestock in Thrikonebaung Village, were shot dead in the south of Maungdaw Township.

The Military Council

  • According to the junta media, Min Aung Hlaing handed over a fund for COVID-19 loans worth 330 billion MMK, new money notes printed by Wazi Factory, to the junta administration members on Friday.
  • The junta leader said that it was necessary to carry out for the balance of demand and supply in local manufacturing or else the cost of living would increase.
  • The second junta leader Soe Win said that the 23rd music and performance competition would be held in a grand manner.
  • On Friday, the junta Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement with strong objection to Malaysian Foreign Minister for calling on ASEAN members to communicate with the NUG and NUCC.
  • On Friday, there was a meeting between the junta Minister of Immigration and UNHCR Regional Representative to Myanmar for constructive support of the UNHCR and for the international community to be aware of the activities in the country.
  • The junta Union Election Commission instructed political parties that they would be able to meet with individuals and organizations from foreign countries only with their permission. Reportedly, the parties expressed their disapproval of the instruction.
  • Even in the territory of Nay Pyi Taw under control of the military junta, the junta members have had to travel in secret.
  • Due to the junta’s financial restrictions, the prices of gold and USD have increased sharply in the local market. On Saturday, a tical of gold was worth over 27 lakh MMK and a USD was worth over 3000 MMK.
  • According to the junta fuel oil monitoring committee, the price of petrol has increased daily in the local market ranging from 2300 MMK to 3000 MMK per litre.
  • According to the junta propaganda media, the military junta handed over 3 PDF members without registering any crime to their parents in Hsinbaungwe Township of Magwe Region.
  • In Chin State, the junta army based in a strategic hill of Hakah shot more than 50 mortar shells on Friday.

Summary on 13 August

  • Due to the junta’s mismanagement related to financial policies, the prices of gold and USD have gone up dramatically in the local market and the same is true for the cost of living. Despite their various notifications to control the dollar issue, the junta Central Bank cannot make it at all.
  • The junta Union Election Commission issued a restriction that political parties must seek their permit before they could meet foreign organizations and individuals. Regarding it, political parties expressed their disapproval.
  • In Sagaing Region and Magwe Region with powerful revolution, the junta armed forces have been burning local villages and killing civilians on a daily basis. Consequently, local people have had to run away.
