The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • On Tuesday, Ministry of Foreign Affairs-NUG stated that the discussions by the United Nations Special Envoy need to reflect the voices of the Myanmar people. 
  • Minister of Human Rights-NUG said that the UN Special Envoy to Myanmar should carry out the activities in her first visit with preparations to remove the military junta. 
  • On Tuesday, there was a meeting between the CEC of the National League for Democracy-NLD and Karen National Union-KNU. Reportedly, they agreed to action plans. 
  • On the 74th Karenni Army Day, Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw-CRPH sent a statement with best wishes for the achievement of the aspirations of Karenni people such as freedom, equality, justice and self-determination. 
  • On Tuesday, Ministry of Health-NUG stated that after the military coup, Myanmar children under the age of 5 could not get access to regular vaccinations and they were at risk of getting preventable diseases. 
  • Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation-NUG called for participation in preserving wild animals and plants. 
  • In Kani Township and Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, schools under the Ministry of Education-NUG held events of paying respect to teachers, prize-giving ceremonies and examinations. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Indaw Township of Sagaing Region, a combined force of local PDFs set fire to the junta Nabartanbo gate at about 10:00 am Tuesday. 
  • In Sagaing, there were exchanges of fire at the junta inspection gate of Yadanarbone Bridge in Takaung Ward on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, 2 PDF members and 2 travellers died. Moreover, 5 other passengers were injured. 
  • According to PDF South Monywa, there were false money collections using their name. 
  • Sagaing PDF Regiment (3) announced on Wednesday that two of their members lost lives in a battle.

  • In an interview with DVB, a leader of Yinmabin Township PDF called for more unity among PDFs for the downfall of the military dictatorship. He also called on the public not to be junta informers. 
  • In Yinmabin North, a rally of 3 villages led a march against the military dictatorship on Wednesday. 
  • On Wednesday, a combined rally of villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship. 
  • On Wednesday, Kalay General Strike protested against the military dictatorship. 
  • Somewhere in Sagaing Region where the junta army had burnt down, Western Chindwin led a protest against the military dictatorship, holding a banner - ‘many dead bodies UN need to take action’. 
  • In Pale Township, Myanmar Royal Dragon Army shot mortars at the junta Pyusawti camp in Inbinti Village from 6:30 to 7:00 pm Tuesday. Reportedly, at least 5 members of the junta armed forces died. 
  • In a village of Sagaing Region, protest leaders from Mandalay and Monywa promoted political awareness of PDF members on Tuesday. 
  • In Pale, local PDFs attacked the junta administration department at the centre of the town on Tuesday morning. 
  • In Mayangone Township of Yangon Region, there was a bomb attack near the house of former Major Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, former Vice-President, in Ward (3) on Tuesday night. 
  • According to Anonymous Force Mandalay (AFM), 4 members of FEA were missing together with weapons, which they had bought in Naungcho of Shan North, on their way back into Mandalay at about 3:00 pm Tuesday. 
  • In Myaing Township, local PDF attacked the junta armed forces with mines for two consecutive days. Reportedly, 8 junta soldiers died and their weapons were confiscated. 
  • In Chauk Township of Magwe Region, Urban Guerrillas cleared off a Pyusawti leader and his wife in Wetbar Village on Tuesday morning. After the incident, the junta army arrested and ill-treated over 40 local people. 
  • On Tuesday, a CDM captain died from severe fever at a PDF camp. 
  • According to Justice for Myanmar, Indian company Sandeep Metalcraft exported weapons to Myanmar through Creative Exploration Ltd (formerly known as) My Space International Company Limited). 
  • On Tuesday, General Strike Coordination Body – GSCB released a statement calling on the UN Special Envoy to avoid the activities of acknowledging the military junta in her trip to the country. 
  • According to BEGSC-CEC, they would organize a Black-Ribbon Campaign for two weeks starting from 16 August to support for battles in prison and protest against the execution of political prisoners. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Maungdaw Township of Rakhine State, there was fighting between the junta army and Arakan Army-AA near the Myanmar-Bangladesh border on Tuesday. 
  • In Chin State, there were ongoing battles between local defence forces and the junta army between Hakah and Tantalan. Reportedly, over 50 junta soldiers might have died from 30 July to 16 August. 
  • On their 51st anniversary, SSPP stated that it was necessary to overcome the ongoing crisis, end unlawful oppression, release political prisoners from detention and create an all-inclusive political dialogue. 

The Military Council 

  • In the meeting on Tuesday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that he would have the second meeting with the 10 EAOs which had attended the junta peace discussion. 
  • The junta leader claimed that the fuel oil imported from Russia would arrive regularly at the end of August. 
  • The junta leader said that they would fight the violence unless the political issue was resolved in political ways. 
  • At 2:00 pm Wednesday, the UN Special Envoy to Myanmar discussed with the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing and the junta foreign minister Wunna Mg Lwin.
  • In the press conference on Wednesday, the junta propaganda leader Zaw Min Tun said that the exclusive loans worth of 400 billion MMK were from the fund for COVID-19 management, not from the printed new money notes. 
  • The junta propaganda leader said that 2 PDF members had died and one other had been caught alive in exchanges of fire at Yadanarbone Bridge. He also accused PDFs of using the public as human shields. 
  • U Khin Mg Oo, a member of the junta Union Election Commission-UEC, said that they had been taking legal action against those involved in the fraud and unlawful activities of the  2020 General Election. Reportedly, 239 people were sued with 195 charges.

  • The military junta announced that 4040 million MMK had been given to 491 MPs and government members (including 217 NLD MPs) for their services in the second term of the parliament. 
  • In the junta committee on the import of fuel oil from Russia, Yetagon Energy Trading, owned by son of the junta leader, was a member. 
  • On Tuesday, the junta Central Bank of Myanmar instructed exporters to exchange 65% of their export income for MMK within a working day. 
  • The Internal Revenue Department under the junta Ministry of Planning and Finance issued the tax privileges related to the salaries of Myanmar workers overseas in foreign currency. 
  • According to the junta Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, their so-called little white elephant is healthy and happy with his mother in Taungkoke Township of Rakhine State. 
  • The junta propaganda team announced on Tuesday that they would have to watch the verdict of the court for the Japanese documentary maker and proceed with appropriate action only after all the legal proceeding was finished. 
  • In Yangon Region, bunkers with sand bags were found at the junta immigration offices and the junta armed forces had been taking security there. 
  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, the junta armed forces set fire to Ngatamyaw Village at about 10:00 am Wednesday. 

Summary on 17 August 

  • In Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces under the leadership of Min Aung Hlaing have been burning villages, killing local people and using the public as human shields. However, they falsely claimed that PDF had used human shields in the incident at Sagaing Bridge. 
  • Regarding the meeting of the UN Special Envoy with the junta leader, it is necessary to watch how much it would reflect the aspiration and voices of the Myanmar people.
