The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In Brussels of Belgium, Minister of Foreign Affairs-NUG met with the Secretary General of the EU on Friday and discussed effective action against the military junta and related families. 
  • According to Minister of Foreign Affairs-NUG, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously approved of the report by the Credentials Committee for U Kyaw Moe Tun to represent Myanmar. 
  • Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun confirmed that the UN General Assembly had approved of him to remain as Myanmar’s Permanent Representative on Friday. 
  • Spokesperson of the NUG President Office stated that after the signature of the US President Joe Biden, the National Defence Authorization Act-NDAA would come into force as a law and it was a tonic for the anti-coup movement. 
  • U Nay Bone Latt, spokesperson of the NUG, claimed that along with public’s participation and international support like the NDAA containing Burma Act, the upcoming year 2023 would bring a transformation for the Spring Revolution. 
  • At 9:00 am Friday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Extended Public Administration Teams. There, Minister of Labor- NUG and member of the Central Committee stated that the administration was vital in controlled areas and it was necessary to collaboratively solve any problems. 
  • At 9:30 am Friday, there was an online presentation on the activities of Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) to the members in Chin State, Magwe Region and Sagaing Region. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In an interview with Myanmar Now, Dr. Zachary Abusa, a professor of National War College, stated that the United States could support anti-junta people according to the NDAA. 
  • In Dibeyin Township of Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces shot heavy artillery into Nyaunghla Village for no apparent reason on Saturday morning. Consequently, 4 people were injured. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thway led a march against the military dictatorship on Saturday. 
  • As a 646-day protest, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday. 
  • As a 679-day protest, Kalay people expressed their desire against the military dictatorship on Saturday. 
  • On Friday, Kalay General Strike conducted a night protest against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Indaw Township, the junta army set fire to Jone Jone Gya New Village on Friday. They continued to do so in the main village on Saturday morning. 
  • At about 11:00 am Friday, the car of a military officer was attacked with mines on Shwebo-Kyaukmyaung Road Section. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta soldiers. 
  • In Myaung Township, local revolution army managed to rescue an injured PDF member trapped in Phwasaw Village. 
  • According to a focal person of Myaung Education Network, they have been teaching over 5,300 students on campus in Myaung Township. 
  • In Salingyi Township, Anyar Pyit Tie Taung Team provided anti-worm tablets to the children and fire victims. 
  • In Mingalardon Township of Yangon Region, there was an attack with 5 107mm grenades at the junta air force headquarters at 8:40 pm Friday. 
  • In Thaketa Township, Sein Khalar or Barboo, allegedly a junta informer, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Ward (10) on Friday evening. 
  • In Thaketa Township, the junta armed forces conducted an overnight guest list check at about 10:00 pm Friday and arrested more than 20 young people. 
  • In Yangon, the junta army arrested about 50 young people in December. 
  • On Thursday, 2 activists of labour affairs and a driver were each sentenced to 3 years in prison at the junta court inside Insein Prison. 
  • On Friday, Ko Wai Lin Yu, founder of Thingangyun Post, and Ma Htet Htet Aung were sentenced to 5 years in prison under the charge with Section (5) of the explosives law. 
  • In Mindone Township of Magwe Region, Soe Nyein, a junta informer, was shot dead in Letpwa Village on Thursday morning. Reportedly, there was also a mine attack on a junta army car on their way for investigation. 
  • In Thayetchaung Township of Taninthayi Region, there was an anti-junta movement with a graffiti of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing between two local villages on Saturday morning. According to Dawei Information Center, there was a mine attack on a military car on the way to destroy the graffiti and there might have been casualties among junta soldiers. 
  • In Hpakant of Kachin State, a rally of gems workers marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Saturday morning. 
  • In Kawkarait Township of Kayin State, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army at the power station of Ngadine Village at 6:00 am Friday. Reportedly, there might have been casualties among junta soldiers. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Chin State, a soldier from the junta army Ka-La-Ya (274) defected to CDF Mindat, together with a gun, on Friday. 
  • On the border of Paletwa and Matupi, local CDF attacked the junta gate of the bridge. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died and 5 others were injured. 
  • In Sezan Village near Titain, there was a clash between the junta army and PDF Zoland + CDM Siyin on Friday morning. 
  • In Tanaing Township of Kachin State, Kachin Independence Army-KIA burnt the camp of the Dule Party under the military junta stationed in Lamone Village on Friday morning. 
  • In Namsam Township of Shan North, the members of local EAO had to take out the bodies of many junta soldiers who had died in battles against Ta’ang National Liberation Army-TNLA near Konetha Village from 7 to 12 December. 
  • In the south of Fruso in Karenni State, Karenni Army-KA led an attack on the special point of the junta army training school on the morning of 9 December. Reportedly, at least 9 junta soldiers died. 

The Military Council 

  • At 10:00 am Friday, there was a meeting in Nay Pyi Taw between the junta Minister of International Cooperation and Director for Asia Region of the UNDP based in Bangkok. 
  • On Friday, the military junta announced that U Aung Tun Khine, the junta Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, had been allowed to resign. 
  • The junta Ministry of Electricity announced that they would reduce the power supply in some areas while finalizing the very first 500-KV grid in the country. 
  • On Thursday, the junta Central Bank of Myanmar announced that they had no plan to change the reference rate of 2100 MMK per USD. 
  • According to the statistics of the junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce, Thailand overtook China, the main trade partner of Myanmar, in terms of border trade in the seven months of the current fiscal year. 
  • According to the junta fishery department, the export of fishery products was worth nearly 500 million USD in the eight months of 2022-23 fiscal year. 
  • The junta forestry department invited local people and private businesses to establish bamboo plantations in the forest area of Yangon Region. 
  • The junta Myanmar Railway Department stated that they had been arranging the service for the Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw route starting from 30 December. 
  • The junta Embassy in Thailand announced that they would reopen the appointment system in person starting from 7 January in 2023. 
  • On Friday, the junta Embassy in Thailand announced that family members were to contact them for the compensation of a Myanmar citizens who had lost life in a car accident. 
  • The National Democratic Force-NDF stated on Friday that the 2023 election was the escape for the stability and development of the country. 
  • In Kutaung Area of Yathaytaung Township in Rakhine State, 20 junta-appointed administrators of 19 village tracts submitted letters of resignation on Friday. 
  • In Matupi Township of Chin State, 5 fully-armed junta soldiers ran away on Wednesday and caught again the following day. 

Summary on 17 December 

  • The United Nations approved of the NUG Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun to remain as Myanmar’s Permanent Representative. Consequently, he would be able to keep urging international community to put pressure on the military junta and take action against them. 
  • In Yangon, revolution forces managed to conduct an attack with heavy artillery on the junta air force headquarters.
