The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • According to the NUG, the People’s Defence Forces (PDFs) have been able to control up to 90% of main roads and 80% of local villages in Sagaing and Magwe regions with a powerful People’s Defensive War.
  • According to the NUG, their members, including the Acting President, Union Prime Minister and Union Ministers have been in the country, carrying out government activities. Thus, the word ‘Exile Government’ is not to be used.
  • The NUG stated that they would soon hold another auction for a private house confiscated by the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing.
  • At a press conference, the NUG stated that it would soon come up with proposals would for a project called ‘Green Area’, in which a park and other memorials to the Spring Revolution would be developed on the land of some areas confiscated by the junta army in central Yangon.
  • In Kawlin Township in Sagaing Region, the drugs confiscated by local PDFs under NUG Ministry of Defence were destroyed in public.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Salingyi Township in Sagaing Region, the Students’ Union (Central) led a march against the military dictatorship on Wednesday, holding signs saying ‘There is a new nation for those who dare to revolutionize’.
  • On their 468 th day of protest, a combined rally of villagers from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • In Salingyi Township, the junta army killed two people from Moegyoebyin Village by slitting their throats and stabbing them to death near the Chinese Wanbao copper mining project.
  • On Wednesday, LDF Kalay displayed weapons they had managed to produce themselves.
  • In Monywa, a member of the junta district administration was assassinated by a local PDF.
  • After the incident, there were exchanges of fire between them and the junta police. Reportedly, three junta policemen, including an officer, died. As for the PDF, they lost a leader.
  • In Khin-U Township, there was an attack on a car holding 14 junta police and Pyu Saw Htee members near Muchaung Bridge at about 9:30 am on Wednesday. Reportedly, all of them died.
  • On Wednesday, the Kalay General Strike protested against the fascist army.
  • On Wednesday, all embassies including the U.S, Europe and Italy changed to black profiles to express their sorrow for 2,000 people who had been killed by the junta armed forces.
  • In Pwint Phyu Township in Magwe Region, there was an attack on a car carrying PDF members at Mezali Bridge on the Pathein-Monywa Road. Reportedly, 12 of them lost their lives, three were injured and others were arrested.
  • In Thatone Township in Mon State, Tun Tun, a soldier from the junta army regiment 402, joined the local PDF on Monday.
  • On Wednesday, the Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • Before dawn on Wednesday, the junta army at Hpakant Prison was attacked with mortars by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and their allies.
  • In Demoso Township in Karenni State, the junta army set mines in Ukuri Village when they retreated, according to the Karenni National Defence Force (KNDF).
  • In Mrauk-U in Rakhine State, the Arakan Army (AA) arrested all the staff members of the junta security office near Nyaungbinzay Ward on Tuesday evening.

The Military Council

  • In a meeting with the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing asked how they should proceed in the current situation.
  • In Longlone Township in Tanintharyi Region, the junta army ruthlessly killed a woman in Wabyaw Village at about 11:00 pm on Tuesday and discarded her dead body in front of her house.
  • According to the junta Chief Minister of Shan State, drugs worth $642.608 million USD will be destroyed on the 35 th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26 June.
  • On Wednesday morning, the 16 th meeting of the ASEAN Defence Ministers was conducted in Phnom Penh in Cambodia. According to the junta media, Mya Tun Oo from the junta army attended.
  • Reportedly, the ICRC made the junta an offer to provide humanitarian assistance to the needy in the areas with previous and ongoing conflicts. 

Summary on 23 June

  • Recently, there have been frequent military tensions between the junta army and AA in Rakhine State. On Tuesday evening all the staff at the junta security office near Nyaungbinzay Ward were arrested by the AA. This could increase tensions.
  • In Pwint Phyu Township in Magwe Region, some PDF members lost their lives. A large group of junta soldiers died in Khin-U Township in Sagaing Region. Upcountry there were heavy battles and the military junta is finding it difficult to control such areas. According to the NUG, its forces control up to 90% of the main roads in those regions.
  • With regard to the killing of people by the military junta, international diplomats officially expressed their sorrow. Judging from that, the NUG has been getting the better at international diplomacy and it has made more of an effort to be recognized as the legitimate government of Myanmar.
