The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG announced that the military junta has been constantly committing violence such as unlawful arrests, imprisonment, ill-treating, killing, revoking professional licenses of doctors and healthcare staff, unethical monitoring of patients’ confidential information, raiding, inspecting and sealing off hospitals and clinics.
  • The NUG Minister of Health offered his sincere condolences to the family of Mg Kyaw Nyi Zin, a third-year Mandalay Medical University student who was shot dead by the junta army. He also stated that they would take back justice without fail for the loss of innocence.
  • From 10 to 13 May, the Basic Education Conference and a press conference was held to inform the public about its outcomes.
  • The NUG has been promoting diplomatic relations with the international community. So far, they have opened offices in 7 countries.
  • At 10:00 am on Saturday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on Implementing the Interim Public Administration and the Committee Representing the Yangon Regional Hluttaw.
  • The Interim Chin National Consultative Council (ICNCC) announced that in cooperation with the NUG Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment, they would sell Spring Revolution Special Bonds.

Revolutionary Activities

  • On Sunday, activists called on Chevron not to pay taxes to the military junta at a protest in front of the Chevron Oil Refinery in the US.
  • On Saturday, a joint-statement by the US and South Korea called on the international community to give refuge to Myanmar people who are in trouble due to the military junta.
  • According to a police fax, a captain from the junta army with substance use disorder shot at another captain and soldiers in charge of security on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway. Reportedly, the latter captain died and three other soldiers were injured.
  • In Shwepyitha Township in Yangon Region, a combined rally of students’ unions and the General Strike Committee conducted an anti-junta demonstration, releasing balloons with a banner against the military dictatorship.
  • In Thanlyin Township, the military junta has been demanding money from motorbike drivers to arrange for them to receive permits.
  • On Sunday, the Mandalay Monks’ Union conducted an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • In Myingyan Township in Mandalay Region, the Natoegyi PDF attacked the junta army stationed in the school of Kunsait Village on Saturday. Reportedly, two junta soldiers died.
  • On Sunday, UNDERGROUND (UG) Family, an organisation of Myanmar people in Thailand, carried out a Spring Revolution fund-raising football match for the destination of federal democracy and the downfall of the military dictatorship.
  • In Myaung Township in Sagaing Region, the junta army set fire to Mindan Village on Saturday evening and they made the overnight stay in a the nearby village of Itha.
  • In Shwebo Township, a rally of villagers expressed their anger against the military junta and their blood-stained financial sources.
  • On their 438 th day of protest, a combined rally of villagers from Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In Katha Township, a troop of 150 junta soldiers was attacked with mines by a local PDF on Sunday morning. Reportedly, about 30 of them might have died.
  • In Myaung Township, a local PDF and Energa attacked the house of the township officer in the police station and the fire brigade on Saturday. Reportedly, four junta soldiers died.
  • In some towns of South Korea, Daegu Sayardaw and Norway Sayardaw led Myanmar-Korea prayer events, protests against the military dictatorship in Myanmar and fund-raising activities for the Spring Revolution.
  • In South Korea, GTRO CUP (Global Thantlang Relief Organization) has been organizing a fund-raising football competition for Tantalan townspeople and against the military dictatorship. Reportedly, 32 teams would take part in it.
  • In Tanintharyi Township in Tanintharyi Region, the junta army shot dead no less than five civilians including children in the Taku Area, starting on Friday. Reportedly, they beheaded one of them. They also set fire to people’s houses.
  • In Myaing Township in Magwe Region, the junta army arrived at Hsinsein Village on Saturday. They then shot dead a villager aged 20 and arrested two others.
  • In Shweku Township in Kachin State, a troop of junta soldiers on foot was attacked with H- 22 mines by Myohla PDF. 
  • In Myawaddy District in Kayin State, the water level of the Thaungyin River in the east of Dawna Mountain Range rose starting on Saturday, causing riverbank erosion. Consequently, the IDP camps near the river bank have had to urgently move elsewhere. 

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • A joint statement by the Yarmanya Federal Force- NRFF, the Mon National Network- MNN and the Mon National Council Australia- MNCA called for a national fight against the military junta who are the national enemy.
  • In Pekone Township on the Shan-Kaya border, a local PDF attacked junta army Regiment (422) near Seelaw Village on 19 and 20 May. Reportedly, five junta soldiers died.
  • In Demoso Township in Karenni State, there were two battles between the junta army and local PDFs on Saturday. Reportedly, four junta soldiers died.
  • In South Korea, there was a discussion between the Chair of the ABSDF and members of the National Unity Consultative Council- NUCC, and Spring Forces on Sunday.
  • In Karenni State, Rural Land and Magwe KKT donated food and school bags on Sunday for the children at an IDP camp in Demoso Township.

The Military Council

  • According to U Khin Mg Oo, a member of the junta Union Election Commission, there have been population checks on the ground in townships for the compilation of accurate voters’ lists for the upcoming General Election.
  • According to the junta Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, they have been promoting the productivity of farming sector through innovation based on bio-technology.
  • Under the guidance of the junta’s Rakhine State Government, the Department of Disaster Risks Management gave rice to the IDP camps in Kyaukdaw Township on Friday.
  • On Sunday, there was an ongoing meeting with a team led by the RCSS Chair. 
  • In Mawlamyeingyung Township in Ayeyarwaddy Region, the military junta organized the opening ceremony for a new court built with funding support from the Union Supreme Court.

Summary on 23 May

  • The NUG has been on good terms with the international community. They managed to open their representative offices in seven countries. As for the military junta, the scope of their relationships with the international community has become narrower.
  • In Sagaing, there were battles between junta soldiers and PDF members all over the area. As for the junta armed forces, they had a great loss there. As for some local PDFs, they managed to turn their defence into offensive attacks.
  • In Pekone Township in Shan South, there was a heavy fighting between the junta army and local PDFs for the whole day. Consequently, local people had to run away. As usual, the junta armed forces have been setting fire to villages. However, the junta media tend to spread lies that PDFs carried out such activities. Due to the violence of the military junta, hundreds of thousands of local people have had to run away.
